Mission Statement:

The Council of International Fashion Designers Foundation, Inc. works to further charitable, philanthropic and educational initiatives on issues that are of specific concern to the international fashion design and creative arts community and to promote, develop and teach activities that benefit the creative and commercial aspects of the fashion sector in general through quality programming and training.

About the CIFDF:

The Council of International Fashion Designers Foundation, Inc. (CIFDF – renamed in 2015 from the Miami Fashion Week Foundation) is an independent, not-for-profit organization founded in 2008.

The CIFDF works to educate and mentor students and emerging designers studying and working within the creative arts through personal development and educational opportunities and activities presented by a variety industry professionals as well as an annual on-line design competition.

The CIFDF annually hosts a variety of events to raise scholarship funds that will benefit the emerging designers and students studying fashion design, fashion photography, jewelry making, handbag design and graphic arts who are the winners of the competitions.

The competition winners receive prizes including mentoring and internships, as well as a cash scholarship from the CIFDF and recognition on the organizations official web site as part of their award.

The Council of International Fashion Designers Foundation, Inc. is a tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code and supports education within the creative arts.

Mission Statement

The Council of International Fashion Designers, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization established to educate and empower international emerging and established fashion and accessory designers on the industry’s business practices in the American market. The CIFD also works to advance the status of fashion design as a branch of art and culture; to raise artistic and professional standards and to promote appreciation of the fashion and creative arts through leadership and quality programming for its members.

In addition to the above, the CIFD is committed to nurturing the development of emerging international designers through educational initiatives providing information, support and resources, and to guide them through the process of entering the American market.

About the CIFD

The Council of International Fashion Designers, Inc. membership base consists of emerging and established international fashion and accessories designers, fashion press, stylists, make-up artists, hair stylists, graphic artists, fashion photographers, fashion merchandisers, visual merchandisers, fashion retailers, international trade offices and related industry professionals who have been working in their fields for a minimum of 2 years.

Founded in 1999, the CIFD was created to promote the Latin American designers as international style creators, rather than folkloric and continues to advance the status of all international designers entering in the American market through cultural exchange, raising artistic and professional standards, promoting ethical practices within the industry and promoting fashion design as an international and creative form of art.

Membership

The Council of International Fashion Designers, Inc. members consist of emerging and established fashion industry professionals with a minimum of 2 years working within the field. Membership in the CIFD is open to new applicants that are reviewed under the terms of membership qualifications as noted above. All applicants are reviewed by the Board of Advisors for acceptance into the organization.

Education and Professional Development

CIFD works to support education and promotional efforts for the fashion community and to streamline and inform its members of the ever changing and fast paced international world of fashion, legal requirements, networking and business opportunities within the industry.

The CIFD with its strategic partners and business alliances are committed to nurturing the development of the emerging designers and young industry professionals through educational initiatives and in providing support and resources for them to flourish in the American market. The CIFD hosts and promotes a variety of professional business and educational seminars and webinars covering topics that include retail and fashion trends, global initiatives in the garment industry, international apparel law, duties and drawbacks, establishing a US corporation, opening a US merchants account and credit cards, importing, distribution, licensing, brand marketing, American market and buyer relations, international property rights, public relations, working with showrooms and stores and among many other things, simply understanding the business of fashion in the American market.

Over the years, Beth Sobol has been the guest speaker and a panelist at many international fashion events including Ecuador Fashion Week where there is an award in her honor called the "Beth Sobol Emerging Latin American Designer Award" and at Caribbean Fashion Week in Jamaica. Always with a focus on the business of fashion and developing designers for the American market, Beth is a sought after consultant and speaker for many international consulates and trade offices throughout the region. In 2010 Beth was the keynote speaker at the Women Who Lead Conference at Florida International University sharing her insights and entrepreneurial spirit to help empower and impact the lives of hundreds of young women on the verge of starting their careers.
